The Passenger

«I'm standing on the platform of a tram and am tottaly uncertain in regard to my status in this world, in this city, in my family. I couldn't even incidentally specify what demands I could justifiably make in any direction. I cannot at all account for the fact that I am standing on this platform, holding on to this strap, letting myself be carried by this tram, that people make way for the tram or walk along quietly or pause before shop windows. It's true that no one demands it of me, but that doesn't matter.» Franz Kafka, Meditation, Vitalis, 2007.
